SEEING ME IN THE WORLD
A Student-Led Journey Through Roxbury
.jpg)
At the UU Urban Ministry, we believe history is not just something you read about. It is something you experience. It shapes the way we see ourselves in the world. Seeing Me In the World was created by students, for students, to bring history to life in a way that feels real and relevant. This two-hour program and tour, facilitated with the help of students from UUUM's youth program, invites young people to engage with Roxbury’s past and present through their own lens.
This is more than a history lesson.
Participants will have the chance to:

Engage
Explore the real and layered history of Roxbury, from its roots to its present-day realities. Take part in a youth-led tour and reflection workshop that combines personal stories, community history, and the mission of the UU Urban Ministry.
Reflect
Participate in story circles and small-group conversations that invite vulnerability, identity exploration, and shared learning. Leave with tools to make meaningful change in your own communities.
Learn
Gain a deeper understanding of Roxbury’s people, culture, and legacy. See yourself as part of a broader and more interconnected world, where your story matters and your choices make a difference.
This program was created by students who wanted to make history personal, relevant, and real. They understand that when young people lead and invite others into conversation, it creates a space for deeper connection, reflection, and new ways of seeing ourselves in the world.

Read this review from a previous group that participated in Seeing Me In The World:
"Satisfied customer here! We at Unitarian Universalist Society of Schenectady engaged UUUM for this tour for our Coming of Age kiddos, and I can't recommend it highly enough!! Our tour guide was impressive, and with her being so close in age to our CoA participants, she made SUCH an impact on our kids. If you have the opportunity to take this tour, do it!"
