Merissa Cove is an African American girl who lives with her mother and sister. Her parents separated before she was born. Merissa has never met her father. Her mother refuses to talk about him. She gave Merissa a black-and-white photo of her father when he was an officer in the U.S. Navy. “Merissa’s Sea-cret Powers” is a fictional story with vivid and vibrant illustrations to encourage (you) the reader to take a visual journey with the characters.
In the pages of the book, you will discover how four SEA-CRET elements, (1) the power of imagination, (2) dreams, (3) wishes, and (4) a purple mermaid necklace are key to the outcome. Merissa is passionate and determined to uncover the truth about her dad. Her best friend Alice helps her discover the hidden SEA-CRETS. Merissa’s Sea-cret Powers is for Lower Middle-Grade readers, ages 7-10. It reflects the vision and young voices of the authors, 8-year-old Cadence, and 9-year old twins, Aviella and Nevaeh.
