Part-Time Youth Program Staff Member

The Unitarian Universalist Urban Ministry (UUUM) is currently considering candidates for a part-time position on the staff of our after-school Roxbury Youth Programs (RYP). RYP is a comprehensive after-school program serving approximately 50 underserved middle- and high-school students, offering opportunities for youth to improve their academic, interpersonal and leadership skills while empowering them to be leaders in their families, schools and communities. The RYP Staff Member will report to the Director of Roxbury Youth Programs and will work closely with youth program participants and other UUUM staff members. We are seeking an individual with a background in working with youth and who possesses good interpersonal skills.

• Bachelor’s degree or some college; study in the areas of education or social work is desirable
• Experience working with youth in low-income communities of color.
• Must be computer savvy (familiar with Word, Excel, Internet).
• Must be a team player, self-starter, quick learner, and have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to exercise patience and have a good sense of humor.

The RYP Staff Member will be expected to work up to 25 hours weekly, generally 3pm-8pm weekdays including some Saturdays.  He/she will work with the youth program participants on a daily basis and oversee the youths’ involvement with various activities. These activities, which are led by UUUM staff and volunteers, include homework assistance and tutoring, gym recreation, college access and post-secondary options, health and nutrition workshops, a safe dates/healthy relationships curriculum, field trips, and a summer youth employment program. The RYP Staff Member will assist in maintaining contact and managing relationships with parents, teachers and volunteer tutors, and help feed a data collection process that tracks student performance. RYP Staff Members work closely with the Director of Roxbury Youth Programs, as well as the Coordinator of Congregational Outreach and Volunteers, Development Coordinator, and other UUUM staff.

Anticipated start date: Early to mid-February. This is a part-time position with no benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications, ranging from $15.00- $17.00 hourly. Qualified candidates will be contacted for an interview.
