Director of Youth Programs
The Unitarian Universalist Urban Ministry (UUUM) is currently considering candidates for the position of Director of its after-school Roxbury Youth Programs. The Director will provide leadership for the program’s three major components (described below). This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with strong leadership skills to support the academic and social development of Boston Public School students, to direct a diverse team of staff and volunteers, and to build a solid foundation for the program’s growth. Roxbury Youth Programs consists of (a) after-school and evening programs for middle and high school students offering a combination of academic tutoring, social and citizenship development opportunities, and enrichment activities; (b) a weekend program for elementary-school-age children, offering enrichment opportunities and building social skills; and (c) summer programming for high-school-age youth (employment and leadership training) and middle- and elementary-school-age youth (camp placements). The mission of Roxbury Youth Programs is to provide a safe and supportive environment that encourages children and youth to develop the academic, social, and leadership skills needed to thrive in a diverse and challenging world, and that offers volunteers opportunities for transformation in helping young people to realize their potential.
The Unitarian Universalist Urban Ministry is one of the oldest social justice organizations in the country, with an extensive volunteer program and the support of an alliance of approximately 50 Unitarian Universalist congregations in Greater Boston. Roxbury Youth Programs, centered on the campus of the First Church in Roxbury, is one of a diverse spectrum of outreach programs serving Boston families.
